Gardanne , 26th of October 2015

The European Agency of Research and Technology Organization has awarded the prize of European Innovation 2015 to the project NAWACap (ultra rapid carbon batteries) from the CEA and NAWATechnologies. EARTO regroups 350 European centres of research and development, among them the Fraunhofer Institute (Germany), the CEA, VTT (Finland), TNO (Holland) and SP (Swedish Institute of Technological Research), the other finalists of the competition 2015.This prestigious prize is awarded for the category “Technology with strong potential” and was presented on the 14th of October during a ceremony in Brussels before a public of 200 people and in the presence of M.Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Technology and Innovation and Mme Maria Khorsand , President of EARTO. This crowns the efforts of the fundamental R&D work undertaken in the CEA since 2001 by the laboratory LEDNA (Laboratoire des Edifices Nanometriques) of the Institute Rayonnement Matiere de Saclay (CEA IRAMIS) in the development of carbon nanometric material. The application of this material to store energy was completed in collaboration with the universities of Cergy Pontoise end Francois Rabelais of Tours . The foundation of the company NawaTechnologies is based on this new ultra rapid carbon battery technology. This project has already created 23 jobs in the Cote d’Azur region.
